Commenting on DoFollow Blogs is a very effective form of backlink generation to your site. If your new to this concept, DoFollow is a piece of code that tells Google whether to follow that link or not. If you want a backlink to have a positive effect on your SEO, you must ensure the link is not embeded in the “nofollow” code otherwise it counts for nothing. It’s not completely useless as you can still generate traffic but that link won’t rank you any higher.

Many use this method but not many understand some key aspects to make this a worthwile process. With that in mind, I thought I would clarify how to utilise this backlink generating method in an effective manor to help boost your SERPS.

Firstly, you must make sure the blog is “DoFollow” otherwise leaving any comment will be a waste of time. You can check this in a number od ways, either use the tool known as “SEO for FireFox” which will tell you straight away whether a site uses that piece of code or not. In my opinion this tool is very good and strongly recommended for any webmaster!

You can also select “view” on your web browser and then “page source” and then this will show you the HTML of the page. Do a browser search for the words “dofollow”, if this peice of code is found then good news, get ready to post.

Secondly, you must be respectful to the site owner. Unless you leave a 3/4 sentence decent comment thats relevant to their niche/post subject, it will be a waste of time as the chances are it wont be published. If someone did the same to you, you would delete it in a second so be wary of that.

Thirdly, try to get some of your main keywords into the comment. This is because any backlink surrounded in content relevant keywords will have a much more positive effect in terms of SEO. Just remember point 2, otherwise once again you are wasting your time. Being Subtle is the key here.

Finally, no more than 10 – 20 comments a day. Google has some very smart spam bots and will literally blacklist you if it sees you spamming your link on millions of blog comments. Build your backlinks slowly and respectfully and Google will thank you for it!.
